ALL IT TAKES IS ONE TO GET IT UP AND STARTED, THANK YOU ZACHARY!
Yesterday on a wet Saturday, we had our first BLISS-OUT-KUNDALINI Yoga class at IN TOUCH MEN. We worked to balance the spine's energy using flex & extension coupled with rhythm & breath, moving and mobilizing this essential part of the male body.
The mobility of our spine is key to our complete well-being. Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini Yoga that we follow at IN TOUCH MEN, looked at it like this.
The spine consists of 32-34 vertebrae.
7 cervical -neck-
12 thoracic -chest-
5 lumbar -lower back-
5 sacral -fused into one, your sacrum-
3-5 coccyx -varies among individuals-
The spine has two mutually exclusive functions that it needs to balance.
It houses and protects the nervous system, and it allows for the mobility of the human body.
Inside the bones of your spine is your Dural Tube. This connective tissue tube runs from your skull base to the bottom of your spine, your sacrum. Inside it is the cerebral spinal fluid, the purest in the human body; in this fluid-filled ecosystem (almost identical in composition to sea water... hmmmmm... more on this to come) run the nerves that carry signals from your brain to your entire body.
So, a healthy spine with clear and flowing cerebral spinal fluid is key to a healthy you.
As many of you know or will begin to understand when you join us,
I AM A GEEK. I like to investigate the what, why, and how of all things body.
When I first started to explore a YOGA practice, I found myself finding teachers who showed me what to do and how to do it. When I wanted to go deeper into the physiological reasons for why I was doing a certain thing, it was sometimes a bit more elusive to find. Then I found KUNDALINI YOGA as taught by Yogi Bhajan.
For me, Kundalini Yoga was different than all other Yoga styles. It was not twisting me into difficult postures; instead, rhythm and subtle movement were introduced to my body that I found freeing and enjoyable.
As I practiced, I began to understand the difference between difficult and challenging. The difficulty I found in other yoga styles discourages my practice, whereas Kundalini Yoga's challenging kriyas (movement sets) began to make me better and encouraged my Yoga practice. What worked for me most was that the mentioned above -why was I was doing something- were all laid out in Yogi Bhajan's teachings, a true Yoga Master.
So with that, I am excited to get more IN TOUCH MEN involved in our new YOGA FOR MEN program. We now have options for you to begin exploring.
Next Sunday at 4:00 will be our next FREE -INTRO TO KUNDALINI YOGA-class and starting in May HATHA YOGA with Yogi EDD.
